Building a Supportive Staff Environment from Day One

At Compassionate Care Group we pride ourselves on creating a nurturing environment for both our service users and our staff. This year we have branched into a new area of care- Residential Childcare.

Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Segun, a team member at our new Children’s Service who joined us just two months ago.

A Positive First Impression

At the start of any position with Compassionate Care, our team will discuss the client’s needs and requirements with candidates to make sure that the client and candidates will be well matched. Segun’s discussion during the interview matched him well to our service user as he had previous experience with working with learning disabilities, challenging behaviours and non-verbal clients.

Comprehensive Training and Support

For Segun, what set Compassionate Care Group apart from other care companies was the training program we offer- "They took their time to train us, gave us a whole robust outlook of the service user, and didn't just throw us in the deep end." We pride ourselves on our comprehensive induction program that prepares our staff for working with us, no matter their background or previous experiences. Our aim is to not only make sure the staff feel comfortable performing their responsibilities, but the client feels happy and safe with their staff. Segun felt that our training gave “pretty much everything [the team] need to be able to support the service user properly.”

Team Bonding and Collaboration

Another highlight of the onboarding process was the team bonding sessions. "During prep time, we had a good time bonding with the team," the staff member noted. These sessions are important for building a cohesive group, as everyone starts on a clean slate. “We all learnt together and as we all have different experiences and background, we were able to contribute properly to the team.”  Our training approach fosters a supportive environment where everyone can contribute based on their experiences and backgrounds, leading to a harmonious and effective team dynamic. "The service user settled in marvellously, and the feedback has been good all the way through," Segun shared.
